New novel lined up for next summer
American Gods author Neil Gaiman has revealed that his new novel will be "a story of magic" and will be published next summer.
The Ocean at the End of the Lane has been described by his publisher Headline as: "a truly wonderful novel from a genius storyteller, which is at once moving, magical and terrifying".
Gaiman described the book as "a novel of childhood and memory. It's a story of magic, about the power of stories and how we face the darkness inside each of us. It's about fear, and love, and death, and families. But, fundamentally, I hope, at its heart, it's a novel about survival." The novel will be published in July 2013.
A picture book from Gaiman, called Chu's Day, will be published at the beginning of 2013, with a second children's book to follow later in the year. Gaiman is also writing a new episode of Dctor Who, to be screened next year.
BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 4 Extra are also set to dramatise his novel Neverwhere, with American Gods currently under development by HBO.
