Top literary agency scouts for new talent at Foyles open day

06/08/2012 by Stacey Bartlett

Aspiring novelists can pitch their book ideas directly to top literary agents from Curtis Brown for free at Foyles book store in London

At Foyles' Discovery Day, Curtis Brown literary and talent agents are in the Charing Cross store on Saturday 22 September to find the best new literary talent.

In an afternoon of one-to-one sessions they will hear verbal pitches from new novelists and respond to their first pages. They will also offer a ‘surgery’, answering general questions about writing, agenting and publishing. Following this, Jonny Geller, Curtis Brown’s joint CEO and Literary Agent of the Year will join Sam Humphreys, Publisher at Michael Joseph, and acclaimed author Hari Kunzru for a panel event exploring the journey of the book from pen to publication.

Geller said: "I can think of no better venue for new writers to pitch their work than the fabulous flagship Foyles store on the Charing Cross Road. Foyles has long been the champion of discovering new fiction and supporting writers through their careers. At Curtis Brown, we are very excited to form this unique partnership with Foyles, and create the first national open day for new writers to pitch their work to top agents."

Everyone who registers to attend Discovery Day has the chance to win a detailed written reader’s report from Curtis Brown, responding to the writer’s first three chapters and one page synopsis. Budding authors must register for the event in advance at foyles.co.uk. Places will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis, and separate registration is required for those wishing to attend the panel event. For tips on preparing the first page and pitch, writers should go to curtisbrowncreative.co.uk
