For five years there has been an uneasy peace between the Wasp Empire and its smaller neighbours.

The Wasp Empress Seda has used these first years of her reign to consolidate her position at home by executing all opposition and overseeing the development of weapons that can wreak havoc on a new scale. Now all is ready and Seda initiates the Air War. The characters in Adrain Tchaikovsky’s novel are humanoid, but with attributes of various insects, so those of the Fly Apt can fly, but that is where the likeness to insects ends, much to this reader’s relief.  This is the eighth novel in the Shadow of the Apt series, but character and event catch-ups make it easy for newcomers to follow.
