In Southern Africa ‘bundu’ is an area of wilderness far away from towns, and free from any human influence.

Here ecologist Brand del Ray has spent the last seven years researching the local wildlife and plants, but after three years of drought, things are about to change. As hundreds of starving people make their way to the local hospital, Brand finds himself dragged into a desperate mission to save as many as possible.

Published to great critical acclaim in South Africa over a decade ago, Bundu is a tale of unlikely heroes and the ways people will find to survive, not just in times of disaster. Its vivid descriptions and eclectic characters make Bundu a pleasure to read.
