This is a beautifully written story of two teenage girls from very different backgrounds, both of whom are trying to cope with their own heart-breaking situation.

Jill has lost her father, who was her best friend and the person who understood her and supported her no matter what. She has struggled through her grief and just wants life to get back to normal - something that seems impossible after her mother decides to adopt a baby from pregnant teenager Mandy. Sara Zarr captures both girls’ voices brilliantly and it is impossible not to be moved by their stories, yet she injects enough lightness and humour into the story so that it never becomes depressing or melodramatic.
