In this experimental novel Kimberly Clark quickly becomes bored with sprinter boyfriend Stevie because he is too nice.
Kimberly sets about being as obnoxious as possible to Stevie and is so vile that he kills himself. Kimberly spends the rest of this long novel – more than 450 pages – being mostly unpleasant, although she does have kindness within her as she allows seven men – one for each day of the week – to use her body to pleasure themselves as they please. It is refreshing to read a risky novel unpopulated by middle-class characters; one petit dejeuner recipe is unlikely to appear in even the boldest cookbook. The reader has a choice of ending, too, but judicious editing down to about 300 pages would have made this a better novel.
