A Room Full of Bones is another multi-layered investigation which rewards the reader with each level of the dig into the story.
Fourth in the series featuring forensic archeologist Ruth Galloway, and showing no signs of flagging, this time round Ruth finds the body herself without any need to carry out an excavation, when she stumbles across the dead curator of a King's Lynn museum on Halloween, prior to a coffin containing medieval bones being opened for inspection and display. DI Harry Nelson is called to the scene, bringing an even more interesting dynamic than the earlier novels now that Ruth has had a child by him, and his wife, Michelle, has told him to stay away from her other than during cases.
A new neighbour arrives from Australia and it comes to light that the museum's owner, Lord Smith, had been receiving threatening letters relating to a collection of Aboriginal bones kept at the museum, demanding for their return. A second related death occurs and Ruth, Nelson and the druid Cathbad (also making a welcome return from the earlier novels) find themselves embroiled in an investigation with very high personal stakes and the realisation that drug smuggling may hold a major clue as to what has been going on.
Another perfectly formed discovery, perfect for a wintry night's read and very worthwhile seeking out.
