Shadow of Night continues the saga of Diana Bishop, historian and witch, and her long-lived vampire husband Matthew in their search for the elusive alchemical text, the Ashmole 782.

Diana and Matthew have contravened the laws that govern the coexistence of creatures - witches, vampires, daemons, humans – and are now bound together. Seeking safety they Timewalk back to Tudor England to find Ashmole 782. When Matthew reclaims his former position as lord and spy for Queen Elizabeth, Diana learns there is more to him and his acquaintances than she had thought and uncovers her true nature as a witch. Set in a period of religious intolerance, Harkness’s novel neglects gritty political drama for the warm romantic detail. Throwing in a liberal handful of historical peoples she weaves a rich intelligent and romantic saga.
