Andrew Martin, known for his ‘Tube Talk’ column in the Evening Standard, presents Underground, Overground: A Passenger’s History of the Tube.

‘Passenger’ is apt; Martin takes tube enthusiasts and curious newcomers on a journey beginning with the first seeds of the Underground, hopping throughout history from one line to another, right up to London’s present (and future) rail networks. While this is a more accessible account of the Tube than previous, more academic offerings, it is also incredibly wide-reaching, blending social, political and economic influences with detailed technical analysis.

The combination of these more in-depth observations with lighter, first hand accounts, anecdotes and trivia make this a very informative yet engaging read.
